Spun Metal roller materials and shapes

Plastic rollers can be used if a smooth metal surface is required by the metal spinners (i.e. for optical reasons). The special phenolic resin-based plastic deforms at the point of contact, and increases the contact area – avoiding the typical feed line patterns.

Plastic rollers have a limited load bearing capacity, and so their use is restricted as far as possible to soft metals (pure aluminium, pewter, with a wall thickness of maximum 2 mm). Runs of 1000 to 5000 can be achieved with plastic rollers before re-profiling becomes necessary.

Metal spinning rollers are usually made from steel, the shape of the roller varying according to it’s intended use.
